Cow Palace AutoX 11/01/20

Beautiful day for AutoX at Cow Palace in Daly City, CA. This was the only event I could attend during COVID-19 times. All corvette clubs, including my club NCCA have cancelled all corvette car shows for 2020. We hope 2021 will be better for our car shows and AutoX events. I will post a video of my run, but I have been having issues with my external mic cutting off to my GoPro camera. I have it located by license plate, but I will move to inside of trunk area. I was told by my son that the mic is picking up too much sound from exhaust and is cutting off. Hope new location will improve sound quality. Looking forward to 2021 car and autoX events!

MGW Shift Kit installed

My Z06 came with an aftermarket lower shift box and shifter, and it has always been not smooth to shift. I even installed a Hurst upper shifter, but the lower was still bad. I cleaned out and greased the shift bar in lower box, but still the same.
I decided to go with MGW flat stick red short throw with white ball, the best full kit available for my Z06.
The install was very straight forward and I just watched the install videos on my phone. There is a huge difference with the

short smooth shifts. Also looks cool.
I highly recommend this full kit as an upgrade and it’s worth every penny.

Z06 AutoX at Marina 2019

New ride for 2019

2004 Z06 Torch Red!!!
Sold the C3 75Vette and moved back into a C5. Much more room and HP!
The C5 Z06 is set up for track and autocross from the factory. This is the best bang for your buck $$$  for autocross.
When I bought this Z06 it only had 55K miles and was in very good shape. The old owner has done some modifications and upgrades that I will enjoy. New C6 ZR1 black red line rims and I upgraded to Toyo R888R wheels! Borla Stinger dual exhaust system was on the Z06, and I had to replace both Cats and added X-Pipe to improve the system.
Matt at GP Tuner did a great job tuning the Z06 to 377 RWHP!  Made a huge difference at my first AutoX event.
I did a major interior upgrade, pulled out interior and added sound Matt and heat shield from firewall to trunk. This has made a huge difference and no heat issues.
Nice touch was a upgraded double din stereo with backup camera. I had to connect the Bluetooth and now phone works.
There is a speed bleeding kit installed and it takes minutes to flush out clutch fluid.
I upgraded brake Hawk pads and changed all fluids with Amsoil products.
LED head lights and switch back DRL’s have been added to Z06.
This Z06 is a very competitive AutoX car and I’m improving my times. I hope to be within the top times of the day very soon.
I will post AutoX video’s during the season.

We are back! With a new motor and a new season!

It has been over two years since the last update, since then many changes to the car have been made. The car was given a new heart a custom built 383 Stroker using the original 350 block and is controlled using Holley EFI TPI system. Using a fuel injection system gives full control of the engine and opens all options for more power like turbos and nitrous using the built in controllers. The software has full data logging and digital readout for all measured sensor points, something that is very similar to what I use aboard the ship.

To match the higher horsepower the wheels were changed to 18 inch US Mags wrapped in Nitto NT555, so far we raced at two events and the change in grip is substantial. A cowl fiberglass hood was added to accommodate the taller intake manifold and increase airflow. And lastly the headlights, no more flip up lights. These headlights copy the Lemans C3 Corvette race car which raced in the 1970's, the lights are LED with yellow lenses on the high beams.

Lastly to help with downforce over the rear tires a lexan spoiler was added for autocross. The drastic angle makes it highly effective for the type of racing we do, most courses will only see at most 50 - 60 mph depending on the car and straightaways. At the lower speeds the added force can take seconds off your total time. The strut supports are a must, at highway speeds this spoiler can see well over 100 pounds of force requiring the load to be spread out as much as possible on the fiberglass.

Stay tuned for more of the 2017 season and more updates on the car!

Army Navy Fuel Line

One thing that all race cars share is the fuel plumbing system. Army Navy fittings or commonly known as AN Lines are anodized aluminum fittings used with braided stainless rubber hose. There are a few reasons to use this system: 1) They are more durable than standard rubber fuel line and barb fittings. 2) The connections are easily disconnected and reconnected with out damaging the hose, like with the barb fittings and hose clamps. 3) Race tracks only allow a few inches of rubber hose in the entire fuel system. 4) It looks damn good.

The carb is a Holley 750 cfm street avenger with blue fuel blocks to match the theme in the engine bay. The carb comes with rubber fuel lines as a kit to get you down the road, but it looks a bit ghetto and not too safe in the long run. Pretty much they give you about six pieces of hose, connectors, and simple hose clamps (The non screw on type). The kit used above is Part#641090 from Russell Performance, it comes with a pressure gauge. We also had to purchase a -6AN fuel filter, -6AN 45 degree fittings, and a fuel pump fitting, and about 3 feet of -6 hose. The lines really clean up the fuel system and give the race car look to the top of the engine.
